A NEW SESSION FOR PERSONS WHO CHAIR A NON-PROFIT BOARD OR DIRECTORS OR WHO MAY DO SO IN THE FUTURE.
Chairing a non-profit board of directors is one of the most important and challenging roles anyone could fill in our community. And it does not come with an instruction manual.
In this free-flowing round table experienced, new, and yet-to-be board chairs will hear from their colleagues about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to:
- Planning and leading productive meetings
- Facilitating the process of defining the agency and establishing goals
- Building a strong, engaged board roster
- Evaluating the chief executive
- Creating a culture of successful fundraising
- Clarifying roles and expectations
- Getting the most out of committee chairs and their committees
- Forging an effective partnership with the chief executive
… and whatever else is on your mind.
Workshop Series Coordinator Scott Heyman will bring with him the tips he provides in his workshop Building an Effective Non-profit Board and some good handouts – but this time will belong to non-profit board chairs who have rarely, if ever, had the opportunity to gather and compare notes.
Please join us!
About the Presenter
Scott Heyman is the Director of Education and Training for the Human Services Coalition; in that position has coordinated the Coalition’s Workshop Series since 2008 and he has provided on-site consults to nearly half of all the staffed non-profits in Tompkins County.
Previously he spent 10 years as the President/CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes, 13 years as the Tompkins County Administrator, and five years as the Director of Human Rights for Tompkins County. In all of these he played a leadership role in developing on-the-job learning opportunities for staff and board members.
Scott recently joined the Board of Directors of Family and Children’s Service. He lives in Ithaca with his wife Linda; they have five grown children and seven grandchildren.
